Examination

Regular dental examinations are a fundamental building block in maintaining a healthy mouth. This will involve assessing the teeth, gums and supporting tissues and offering advice, treatment and information.

Dental decay develops when sugar in our diet combine with the plaque left on our teeth. This produces an acid which will attack the tooth surface. The tooth is then slowly destroyed. Early detection is essential so that treatment can be given and the tooth saved. Gum disease is caused when plaque is allowed to remain at the gum margin. Plaque is made up of bacteria. The bacteria gives off poisons and toxins. The gums then become inflamed and the breath smells. The gums may bleed. Gingivitis must not be ignored because this may then lead to periodontitis where teeth can be lost. The surrounding tissues that hold the tooth in place are lost due to destruction. The fibres that hold the tooth in and the bone is destroyed. The tooth then becomes mobile. Of periodontitis is detected early enough it can be treated and if your own oral hygiene is stepped up the tooth can be saved.
